[LbNA] Gone missing

From: B. J. Drew (bjdrew@us.med.navy.mil) | Date: 1999-12-15 04:53:27 UTC-08:00
Randy the Mapsurfer correctly passes on that our third box in the Fast
Passage series in Newport, RI has dissapeared. I stopped by this
morning and it looks like it's been purposefully removed (only our
second box-vandalism this year). The spot was a little borderline as
far as being absolutely out of the way of accidental finds and we're
wishy-washy about replacing it, so if you're planning a trip this way
please omit the last box. I'll revise the cluesheet for now to reflect
only two boxes in the series. It's still quite a lovely walk.

Randy also says that the first box in the Bay of Bristol series is
missing...and that he couldn't find the second box at Ninigret Pond in
Charlesown. Since he's got over 100 "finds," I've got to assume that
Bristol #1 is history (that's one we'll definately replace soon). But
after talking with him, I think he may have missed Ninigret #2, so
we'll maybe have to be a little clearer on the cluesheet to help ensure
success: it's a disapointment to make a long (but beautiful!) slog over
poor beachside footing only to come up empty handed.

Happy holidays, Jay

Well, with apologies to Randy for impuning that he "missed" the second
box at Ninigret Pond...it's also disappeared. (New rule: if Randy
couldn't find it, it ain't there). I'm really surprised about that one
since it was way out at the end of the world and really BURIED, but it
was kind of in 4-wheelin-budweiser country. So, if you're planning a
visit this way, re-download the clues for Ninigret Pond (replaced/moved
to a safer spot), Bay of Bristol (replaced/moved back a bit farther off
the trail), and Fast Passage (third box abandoned).

And finally, we may have to decommission the Old Bridge Letterbox in
the Conanicut Island Series: the towns on either shore of the bridge
have voted against turning it into a bike path/fishing pier and it is
scheduled for demolition in the next year or so. If anyone is planning
on searching for it in the next couple of months, please let me know,
and I'll postpone un-placing it.

Happy holidays to you all! Jay

Re: All..

As for the quote > (New rule: if Randy
> couldn't find it, it ain't there).,well, "It ain't NECESSARILY so". but I admit, he is pretty clever.

Sad as always to hear of missing boxes. As was said earlier this month,
keep 'em simple low cost, and easy to replace. And maybe more difficcult
clues?

Best to all for the holidays. Stay safe.
